Preface: The book's title, "Civil Trials Guidebook," implies that it is meant to be a quick reference guide to civil procedural matters. It is intended for legal and judicial officers, lawyers, and law students. Others who want to learn more about civil litigation may find it useful because it is written in plain English.

The civil procedural process has changed dramatically in recent years. The Rules of High Court 1980 and the Rules of Subordinate Courts 1980 have been replaced by the Rules of Courts 2012, which are a collection of rules. Judges, for example, have more say in case management under the new Order 34. Judges now have the authority to order parties in appropriate cases to try mediation before proceeding to a full trial. This book highlights these as well as other changes.

Key features of Civil Trials Guidebook

There are 42 chapters in this book. It covers all of the important civil procedure issues as well as some non-procedural issues like defamation and personal injury claims. This book, however, does not contain all of the information available. In future editions of this book, it is hoped that improvements will be made. It should be noted, however, that the views expressed in this book do not necessarily reflect the official position of the United Nations.
