Paget's Law of Banking, 14th Edition
Paget's Law of Banking
|Author||Ali Malek QC, John Odgers QC and Pagets|
Paget's Law of Banking, first published in 1904, has established itself as the premier practitioner work on banking law, combining careful accuracy and detail with a straightforward approach to this complicated field.
The existing regulatory structure has been changed by the Financial Services Act 2012, and two new financial regulators, the Financial Conduct Authority and the Prudential Regulation Authority, have come into being since the last version was released in 2007 (just before the credit crunch). Payment services, data protection, and money laundering have all seen significant changes as a result of European legislation.
This has been matched by rapid advancements in both bank services and banking technology. While electronic payments systems are gradually displacing older, paper-based payments, the selling of derivatives such as interest-rate swaps has become a source of income and a fertile field for disputes.
3VB (Chambers & Partners' Banking & Finance Set of the Year for 2013) has an entirely new author team for the upcoming edition. Ali Malek, QC (Head of Chambers at 3VB, Deputy High Court Judge, and past Chairman of the Commercial Bar Association) and John Odgers, QC are the general editors, with 27 individual contributions (who also co-edits Byles on Bills of Exchange & Cheques).
The new author team has entirely redesigned the book, dismantling and reassembling it to better reflect contemporary practise - it is therefore much more than just a normal update. In addition to revising the existing content, there are new chapters on:-
- bank regulation
- money laundering
- data protection
- consumer credit
- payment services
- advising on financial products and retail derivatives
- hierarchies of lending
- syndication of loans
