The Limitation Ordinance (Sarawak) governs the law of limitation in the state of Sarawak (Cap 49). The Limitation Ordinance (Sarawak) (Cap 49) went into effect on January 1, 1959, and was designated a Federal Law in 1965 by the Modification of Laws (Declaration of Present Laws) (Sarawak) Order 1965 — FLN 200 of 1965. 'An Ordinance to restrict the limits of suits,' states the preamble to the Ordinance. 'When a time of limitation is specifically provided for any suits by any special law now or hereafter in force in Sarawak, nothing herein stated shall influence or alter the period so prescribed,' says Section 5. The limitations applicable to each kind of suit are detailed in the Ordinance's schedule, which is divided into numbered articles.
