The Building and Construction Industry Security of Payments Act of 2004 initially went into effect in 2005, the same year this book was originally published. It was hailed as a "academic book" with "tremendous worth and utility" by Justice Robert McDougall of the New South Wales Supreme Court.

Chief Justice Chan Sek Keong of Singapore referred to the Second Edition as a "very approachable guide to the topic." This book is now Singapore's top resource on the topic thanks to the Third Edition. It covers the vast body of case law up till March 2022, including Grouteam Pte Ltd v UES Holdings Pte Ltd (2016); Comfort Management Pte Ltd v OGSP Engineering Pte Ltd (2018) and Shimizu Corp v Stargood Construction Pte Ltd (2020). It also looks at recent legal developments in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Malaysia, New Zealand, and the eight Australian states (including New South Wales).
