Justice Chao Hick Tin made an outstanding contribution to the Singapore judiciary and is widely recognised for his distinguished service as a judge. Born in Singapore, he received his early education at Catholic High School before pursuing a law degree at University College London. His judicial career began with his appointment as a Judicial Commissioner of the Supreme Court of Singapore on 1 October 1987. He went on to serve in the judiciary for approximately three decades, from 1987 to 2017, apart from a two-year period between 2006 and 2008 when he served as Attorney-General. Overall, his public service represented approximately fifty years of dedicated service to Singapore.

Justice Chao was subsequently appointed a Judge of Appeal on 2 August 1999 and became Vice-President of the Court of Appeal on 18 April 2008. This book brings together contributions from members of the Judiciary, legal practitioners, and academics who examine his jurisprudence across 12 areas of private, public, and international law.
