Detailed Contents Of Akta Koperasi 1993 (Akta 502)  :

The Akta Koperasi 1993 (Akta 502) is a Malaysian law that governs the formation and management of cooperatives. The law defines a cooperative as an autonomous association of persons, united voluntarily to meet their common economic, social, and cultural needs and aspirations through a jointly-owned and democratically-controlled enterprise.

The law requires cooperatives to be registered with the Registrar of Cooperatives, who is responsible for ensuring compliance with the law and providing support and assistance to cooperatives.

Some of the key provisions of the Akta Koperasi 1993 include:

  1. Membership: Cooperatives are open to all persons who share the same economic, social, and cultural goals. Membership is voluntary and cannot be denied based on race, religion, gender, or political affiliation.

  2. Capital: Cooperatives must raise their capital through the sale of shares to members. The law requires a minimum of 10 members to form a cooperative, and each member must hold at least one share.

  3. Management: Cooperatives are democratically controlled, with each member having one vote regardless of the number of shares held. The law requires regular meetings of members, and the election of a board of directors to manage the cooperative.

  4. Operations: Cooperatives are required to operate for the mutual benefit of their members, and to provide services or goods at the lowest possible cost. The law also requires cooperatives to maintain proper records and submit annual reports to the Registrar.

  5. Dissolution: In the event of dissolution, the assets of the cooperative must be distributed among the members in proportion to their shareholdings.

The Akta Koperasi 1993 is an important law that provides a legal framework for the formation and operation of cooperatives in Malaysia. It encourages the development of cooperative enterprises, which can play a significant role in promoting economic and social development in the country.
