As environmental conditions deteriorate worldwide, effective responses to the crisis have become increasingly urgent. Singapore is widely recognised for its environmental management, with its legal framework contributing to progress towards sustainable development. Nevertheless, opportunities remain to strengthen these laws.

Described as the first and only textbook dedicated to Singapore environmental law, Environmental Law in Singapore offers a comprehensive reference for legal practitioners, researchers, students, businesses, civil society organisations and policymakers. It places the subject within Singapore’s legal system and the wider context of international and regional environmental law, explaining and critically examining relevant legal principles, legislation and cases.

The book covers pollution control, waste management, nature conservation and climate change, including the criminal and civil liabilities associated with environmental regulation. It also explores broader questions of environmental governance, such as procedural and substantive environmental rights. Where relevant, developments in other jurisdictions provide insights into possible legislative and judicial reforms.
