It is a practical book for learning legal research, analysis, and writing, emphasizing the rigors of legal research while also providing analytical and writing skills that may be utilized immediately in practice. While the book concentrates on Singapore law, it also includes examples from English law and laws from other common-law countries to help students learn how laws from other jurisdictions cross.

Finally, the book offers some advice on how to get through law school and the first few years of practice. Singapore law, as well as English law and the laws of other common-law states, are used as examples.
