We live in an era dominated by computers. While these technological marvels, along with the internet, greatly assist individuals, institutions, and entire nations in their daily operations, like any other invention, they have also been misused. Criminals worldwide have discovered that computers and the internet serve as effective tools for committing crimes, giving rise to the alarming realm of cybercrimes. In simplest terms, cybercrimes refer to crimes committed against or utilizing computers.

Cybercrimes pose a threat not only to individuals but also to institutions and the security and peace of nations as a whole. Addressing the National Conference on Cyber Safety and National Security in June 2022, organized by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Honourable Central Home Minister Sri Amit Shah emphasized the critical link between cybersecurity and national security. He highlighted the Ministry's vigilance and efforts to enhance cybercrime prevention and security infrastructure to counter these challenges effectively. Additionally, the Central Government remains fully alert to all cyber threats and is upgrading its computer systems accordingly.

In today's world, cyber policing and public awareness about cybercrimes are indispensable. Basic education about cybercrimes should be integrated into computer literacy programs, not only for learners but also for police personnel and social activists. Disseminating knowledge about cybercrimes, preventive measures, and proper procedures for handling them is essential for ensuring safety in institutions, society, and the nation at large.

This book aims to promote public awareness about cybercrimes and serve as a basic guide on the subject. If readers find the contents useful, both the author and the publisher will consider their efforts in writing and publishing the book worthwhile.
