This book provides a systematic examination of common law principles, including those applied in Singapore, alongside the theories and doctrines underlying personal property law. For students, these discussions offer a foundation for understanding the subject’s intellectual framework and the broader influences that shape its varied and sometimes conflicting concepts.

While practitioners may focus on specific rules to achieve practical outcomes, resolving complex disputes often requires understanding those rules within their wider theoretical context. The book’s analysis helps readers uncover the purpose and substance behind legal rules, identify flaws in perspective and reasoning, and distinguish fundamental principles from secondary details.

Key Highlights on Personal Property Law by Tan Yock Lin:

• Comprehensive analysis of personal property law.
• Detailed coverage of tangible assets, such as chattels, and intangible assets, including corporate shares and intellectual property.
