In today’s rapidly evolving global economy, international trade and shipping law has become increasingly complex, shaped by cross-border regulatory regimes, economic sanctions, and changing commercial practices. The Law and Practice of International Trade and Shipping offers a timely and authoritative overview of this developing field, combining clear legal analysis with practical insight. The book closely examines the interaction between international trade law and shipping law in practice, an area where legal rules and industry customs are deeply interconnected and mutually influential.
Authored by Philip Teoh, a seasoned practitioner with over thirty years of experience in Singapore and Malaysia, the work draws heavily on his extensive litigation background. This includes his involvement in significant Admiralty cases, most notably The Istana VI, which played an important role in shaping Malaysia’s maritime jurisprudence.
The book addresses the full range of issues arising in international commerce, including the WTO trading system, trade finance, international sales, and the carriage of goods by sea. It provides detailed treatment of vessel chartering, bills of lading, and related shipping documentation, as well as container shipping, cargo operations, marine insurance, and maritime arbitration. Each chapter is supported by analysis of legislation, case law, and industry practice, making the text a valuable reference for practitioners, arbitrators, judges, and industry professionals.
Recognised for its breadth, depth, and practical relevance, the work successfully bridges legal theory and commercial reality. It fills a significant gap in the literature and offers reliable guidance on the complexities of modern international trade and shipping law.
