This book was originally published in 2010. Since then, the criminal justice system has undergone notable changes. These developments have been important not only for bringing greater transparency and efficiency to the administration of justice, but also as a reflection of the system's increasing responsiveness to public concerns and societal expectations.

The second edition incorporates these changes. As a result, the chapters on arrest, search, and charges have been reorganized, and two new relevant topics have been added: the role of the Public Prosecutor and inquiries into deaths. A practical approach is maintained throughout the presentation of the content. The book continues to focus on the initial stages of the criminal process — beginning with the filing of a police report and covering search, investigation, arrest, charges, and other pre-trial procedures — and presents the current legal position as it applies in the administration of criminal justice.
