Tun Abdul Hamid Mohamad has had a remarkably wide-ranging career and life experience. He was born during the Japanese occupation in a rural village in Province Wellesley North, surrounded by paddy fields and lacking basic amenities such as piped water and electricity. Over the course of his life, he witnessed major historical periods, including the Japanese occupation, the Malayan Union, the Federation of Malaya, independence, the formation of Malaysia (with and without Singapore), and the May 13 incident, among others.

Throughout these years, he persevered through both Malay- and English-medium education, continued on to university, and built a distinguished career in the legal and judicial services, eventually rising to become the Chief Justice of Malaysia. In addition to holding numerous positions, he presided over cases in all levels of courts in the country, including the Shariah Courts of Appeal and the Special Courts.

Beyond authoring 567 judicial decisions, he has also produced over 200 speeches, lectures, papers, and articles. This book compiles his works in English, while another volume features those written in Malay. Together, they cover a broad range of subjects. The collection is a valuable resource for researchers, academics, and students of law and Shariah, while also offering engaging reading for a general audience.
